About This Spot

Stepping into Captain's Tavern Restaurant is like slipping into a well-loved chapter of Miami’s rich coastal narrative. Nestled along S Dixie Hwy, this seafood-centered tavern invites you to slow down and savor moments that feel both familiar and a touch timeless. The buzz here carries a gentle warmth — a gathering place where the evening unfolds with ease, marked by genuine smiles and a steady rhythm that soothes without rush.

The atmosphere is a delicate blend of nostalgia and comfort, where classic tunes drift softly in the background, anchoring the space in a laid-back vibe reminiscent of days when neighborhood spots meant a little more than just dinner: they were stages for stories and shared laughter. Even when the room fills up, there’s a thoughtful flow to the service that makes every guest feel seen and cared for, reflecting a kind of heartfelt attentiveness that keeps conversation rolling and glasses raised.

Here, the seafood feels like an invitation to explore the sea’s bounty in both familiar and inviting ways. Imagine savoring fresh oysters on the half shell or delighting in subtle, elegant flavors of cedar plank salmon that carry a smoky kiss. Whether it’s a sip of a well-crafted martini or a taste of key lime pie that balances tang and sweetness just right, dining at Captain's Tavern is less about a checklist of dishes and more about the shared feeling of comfort and discovery around the table.

The menu balances the freshness of the ocean with unexpected touches — a sprinkle of sushi alongside hearty clam chowder, or the nostalgic charm of house-made rum cake. Every plate seems tailored to balance simple pleasures and moments of surprise, while the staff’s warm attentiveness smooths the edges of any busy night, making the experience feel not only welcoming but quietly special.

For those who cherish the soul of neighborhood bars and the pleasures of a well-loved seafood restaurant, Captain’s Tavern offers more than just a meal. It’s a space where good food, genuine care, and an easygoing spirit come together — a local pause that feels like a small celebration of Miami’s vibrant, layered flavors and the familiar comfort of a place that knows you might just return again and again.

We had the best experience tonight. The restaurant was completely full. We were given the only empty table. Initially I worried the kitchen would have trouble since they were at full capacity, but it didn’t. Our server, David was the best waiter I really think we’ve had in recent memory, there wasn’t a moment that we waited for anything. It was really remarkable under the circumstances. Great job.

Its like traveling back in time to 1985. The music, the atmosphere nothing has changed... The food was good the kids meals were a great deal especially if your little ones like fresh fish. Everything was fresh and well prepared. The waitress was very nice, friendly and attentive. Overall a good experience.

The Calamari and the Basalamic Faroe Salmon were both cooked to perfection. The FILET MIGNON was tough to cut and to chew.

I was shocked to see that this place had an average rating of 3.5. I've lived so close to this restaurant and this is my first time here. The interior is absolutely amazing. It transported me back in time to my younger years. I'm not a seafood fan but the family is so I'll take one for the team. The restaurant did not smell like a fish house. The waiter (Anthony) was absolutely great. He was very honest and took his time explaining all the dishes and their accompanying sides. We ordered Churrasco, Trout, Lobster & Oysters. All the food was fresh, delicious and large serving size. We loved the atmosphere and decor. We have to come back for crab season. Well done Captains Tavern!!!! We'll definable be back.
